Indiana cottage food label rules
What has to be on the label when you sell homemade baked goods in Indiana, and the limits that matter at a market. Checked September 2026.
Your label must include
Required statement
“This product is home produced and processed and the production area has not been inspected by the Indiana Department of Health. NOT FOR RESALE.”
At least 10-point type (IC 16-42-5.3-5). Unpackaged foods: put the info on a sign. The older IDOH FAQ says ‘state department of health’ (pre-2023 wording); the current statute says ‘Indiana Department of Health’. Allergen labeling is not required by state statute (IDOH FAQ), though federal allergen labeling is good practice. Alternative HOMESTEAD VENDOR path (eff. 7/1/2026; sells only from own residence/farm or at farmers markets): label statement ‘This product was produced by a homestead vendor or the owner of a small farm that is exempt from government licensing and inspection.’ in at least 10-point type, plus name, address, ingredients, product description and allergens.

Set up this label once. Print it for every cookie.
BakersKeep builds your Indiana label from each recipe: ingredients in order, allergens and the required statement. Change a recipe and every label updates. It also prices your cookies, takes pre-orders and writes the week’s posts.
This page is general information, not legal advice. Rules change and counties can add their own. Confirm with Indiana Department of Health (Food Protection Program) and local health departments before you print. Spotted something out of date? Tell us.
